A little more pain, a little less wisdom

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

I got my last remaining wisdom tooth out the other day.  I got three removed and kept one several years ago because my old dentist Dr. Brady was trying to be nice and didn’t think I needed that last one out. Curse you Dr. Brady! Curse you and your niceness. I had to get it out and it HURTS.  I forgot how much it hurts.

My new dentist is nice and friendly and kind and completely forgot to tell me how much it sucks and how much worse wisdom teeth are than normal teeth.  I have a huge gaping hole, have been downing painkillers since last week and have a huge gaping HOLE IN MY MOUTH. Did I mention that? That’s not okay.  And he didn’t give me a cleaning squeegie. I had to use a turkey baster. I kid you not. It wasn’t pretty.

All I remember from my last wisdom tooth experience is being told that I hung up on all my friends mid-sentence because of my pain meds. (Sorry Dev!) Apparently instead of wisdom I lost considerateness.  (Considerosity?)

This time I lost patience. And the ability to stay awake during work.

I found out since my last blog that Ham Produce is actually a produce company named by a man named Ham. Oh! It makes so much more sense now.  It’s not produce made out of ham. That’s good. It’s like if I owned a produce company and called it Poggi Produce, though in reality if I ever owned a produce company (dream of all dreams) I’d call it Pogguce.  Because I love combining words.  I love alliteration too as you all know, but Poggi Produce doesn’t work. However Pogguce sounds could be a juice company too. Confusion.

Ono= delicious in Hawaiian

What could be more delicious than Ham Produce?

With a side of Seafood.

What the heck is Ham Produce?  Is it like the little marzipan fruit you see? It looks like fruit but you bite into it and it’s actually almond paste.  This stuff is actually made out of ham? Maybe they use spam here, since they make everything out of spam, and it’s malleable.

Gross.

Happy Place

You know how sometimes you’ve had a long day at work and are just dragging on the way home? Commute seems long and lame.  People are annoying.  Someone sits on you by mistake on the bus. (This happened to me the other day.) Someone smells really bad right next to you and you’re too polite to move. (This happened to me a different other day.) You’re tired and trying to convince yourself to go to the gym, but know in your heart of hearts it’s just not going to happen.

I have these days sometimes and then I get off the bus and see this:

It always makes me happy.

It’s funny, because things do feel different living here than visiting. I see all the visiting families and they’re always shiny and red and salty and carefree and sometimes I miss that.  But mostly I just enjoy being able to see the ocean whenever I want.

Sunburn update: David’s is better and I got one the other day.  Doh.

My Big Break!

Many of you have probably heard me talk about the movie that I was an extra in a few years ago, Backseat.  A good friend of my brother’s, Josh, made and stars in the movie.

Well, I’ve been waiting all this time to become famous, and it’s finally time! The movie was picked up by Truly Indie and will be playing in NYC, San Francisco, Seattle and Austin.  It opened in New York this past weekend and has been doing really well so far, which is exciting.  The better they do in theatres, the better the prospects for the movie in the future. So if you live anywhere near a city where it’s showing, please go see it!

NYC:  Starting March 28th at The Quad Cinema

San Francisco & Berkeley:  Starting April 4th, Landmark Opera Plaza in San Francisco, in Berkeley at Landmark Shattuck
Austin:  Starts playing April 11th - Landmark Dobie Theatre
Seattle:  Starts playing April 18th, Landmark Varsity Theatre

Here are the trailers:

Go see it if you can, because if it doesn’t do well it’ll never get here to Hawaii and I’ll never get to see it! AND if I don’t become famous I’ll never make it onto LOST!

If you do see it, I’m in a scene at the very end in a cafe.  I’m directly behind the main characters’ heads.  My friend Ulysses, my brother and I are all there.  It’s just coincidence that we’re all redheads.
