The Great Rubber Duckie Race

How I spent my Saturday

by Karen Q Poggi

One of the fundraisers here in Honolulu is a great rubber duckie race.  You buy a rubber duckie and then get to race it in the Ala Wai canal.  The first 50 ducks past the finish line win something.

I went to check it out and was really excited but walked too slow and missed it.

I did get to see them round them all up though, which was pretty cool.

It was a really cool fundraiser idea and neat to see.  Ernie would have been in heaven.

Why hello faithful blog readers.  How’s it? (just kidding!)

Not much to report, which is why I haven’t been blogging much. Life is good though.

My Mom has quit smoking and hit a whole month without smoking!

This is very exciting to me.

Also, it’s Easter today. We had a good day. Mom and some of her friends and I had a nice dinner at Mom’s house. Poor David got sunburned and spent the day looking like this (but not nearly as happy) and not moving from our couch.

Poor guy.  I brought him a plate.

In order to try to come up with things to write about in my blog I’m trying to take more pictures.

I saw an amazing rainbow the other day driving to Walgreens. It’s such a happy random thing.

This isn’t the same rainbow, but I saw this one a few weeks ago.  You get the idea.

This is me at Costco.  We have food again! And can’t do anything else for 3 weeks. Yar.

Lost, Lost, Lost, I’ve lost my marbles.

That quote is from the movie Hook, which my friend Dev and I used to LOVE.

But the title today refers to the TV show Lost which I’m currently obsessed with. It’s Chris’s fault. We were on our way here to Hawaii once for Christmas to visit Mom and Dad and he bought the first season in the airport on the way and we spent the whole week watching it. (Sad, I know.)

Since then we’ve been hooked.

So one of the main attractions of moving to Hawaii  (other, of course, than living next to my Mommy) was being close to the filming of Lost. We want to try to be extras at some point.  (David’s obsessed too!)

I knew that a lot of the scenes were filmed here, but I had no idea how close!

First off, a lot of the stuff in the show, like Hurley’s van for example, are stored near my office.

And this scene:

was right by my office! It’s the street I walk on every day.  Hurley was there! It’s like I know him.

And this one:

is right by my house.  This is in the scene where Jin meets Sun for the first time when he was the doorman.

So, now that you all know I’m a huge dork I’ll sign off. I do, in my heart of hearts, believe that TV is not real life, but it’s so good! There is more to me too, I promise. I’ll share that next time.

PS- David was on the plane from Atlanta with Miles today!

How’s it?

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

Hey everyone-

After a brief hiatus I’m back.

“How’s it?” is an expression I hear all the time now. It’s a greeting here, like “Hi! How are things going?”

But every time I hear it I think, “How zit?” What does that mean?  What an inappropriate and intrustive question! Probably one too many chocolates. Maybe too much ice cream. How is it any business of yours?

And then I realize, “oh, how’s it?”

By then they’ve moved on.

It’s one of those expressions that really bothers me and I think I’ll never use it, but it’s wearing me down. I predict I’ll be saying it within a few months.

You have my permission to smack me.
