The Famous Frog Blog

September 29th, 2008

Has anyone seen the latest Leapfrog commercial? There’s a man dressed (unconvincingly I might add) in a frog suit and wearing a tie. That’s just silly.  I know many frogs, some successful, and not one needs to wear a tie.  But this one has a frog blog. Apparently my ridiculous love of plays on words extends to cheap rhymes. The idea of a frog blog CRACKS me up.

But even better than a frog blog is David’s blog. (Yes I know you all tried to read it once and it was all computery and scary and so you stopped trying. I’m in the same boat.) BUT, he wrote one the other day and got an awesome response.

We went to Whole Foods and on the way out saw:

Hurley! (He wasn’t that dressed up though.)

It was like meeting an old friend.  And yes, I watch too much TV.  But anyway, David wrote about it on his blog, and then he got a comment. FROM HURLEY.  Jorge Garcia wrote a comment about a blog about him.

It was awesome.  (Jorge, read my blog!  I love you too! In fact, I saw you first.)

Ersatz Karen

September 7th, 2008

I went to a 1st Birthday party today for Karyn’s nephew Camden. So fun.  She couldn’t come back from Sacramento though because the baby’s due soon and the Dr. foolishly advised that not flying was more important than coming home. Ah well, I suppose I understand.

Her Dad made a joke though that I was trying to replace her and just showing up at places she was supposed to be.  Yeah, I blend.  Plus I’m an imposter- no y in my name.

But it was really good to see her family. Camden (the birthday boy)’s Mom is amazingly creative and sent out these hilarious invites with Camden dressed as a monkey, so the whole party was monkey themed.

The best part? I whole bag full of banana runts with none of the gross fruits! Delicious.

Attacked… by a Gecko.

September 7th, 2008

Seriously! So we got rid of that one gecko at Mom’s place, but a new one moved in the next week.  Verena and Sophie found him.  I could tell he was different because he was paler- and had a tail. But we left him. He wasn’t bothering anything. Right? WRONG!

He was hiding, biding his time, honing his skills, watching my every move and memorizing my schedule. Because he’s a ninja gecko.  And when I walked into Mom’s apartment, innocent, unsuspecting, simply looting her pantry for Tostitos- he pounced! From above. And fell on my head.

This is not acceptable gecko behavior.  And then he ran. My screams may have had something to do with this.

So now he’s back in hiding. I think he’s getting his hands on some drink swords from the bar down the street to wait for my return.

But I’ll be ready this time.

Classic Karen

September 7th, 2008

So, I got bored the other day. This is dangerous.  I then signed up for a Book Club. And a German Club. And Chicks with Checks. And then I signed up for a tennis class. And a guitar class.  They all start next week.

I think I’m going to be busy soon.

 (And Gen’s coming to visit!!)

UH Volleyball

August 30th, 2008

David and I went to see the UH volleyball game yesterday. It was really fun. Volleyball is huge here. I haven’t watched a game since it was from the bench in high school. These girls were good though. Although, sadly, we lost.

Reading is for dolts

August 28th, 2008

So, I finished another book today.  I read a lot. I read too much.
I was trying to figure it out earlier today. Say I read at least a book a week ( I spend a lot of time on a bus). There are 52 weeks in a year.  I learned to read when I was 6. So that would be 1300 books so far. And let’s be honest, I read those Little Miss books way faster, and definitely devoured more than one Babysitter’s Club book in a week, so 1300 is a conservative estimate.

What did I realize today to make me think that reading is for dolts?  That I can count the number of those books that I found life-altering, or even LIKED at all, on one hand. ONE HAND! (To be honest, one hand plus an extra finger.) But come on. What a waste of time. I like way more tv shows than that. I’ll just get an ipod nano for the bus.

(Disclaimer: This rant is sponsored by the fact that I just finished reading the book “Inside Out Girl” by Tish Cohen and am still angry I can’t get those wasted hours back.  And I don’t ever REALLY know how much I hate a book until I’m done reading it.   Grrrrrr.  If I were to think about it seriously, I probably would like more than 6 books- especially if I counted the Little Miss series or the Babysitter’s Club again. Those were quality. But still)

Boom de yada

August 28th, 2008

Okay, so I think everyone has something they watch, read, listen to or look at when they need cheering up. For me, for a long time it was the treadmill video by OK Go, and then it was Boundin’, the short by Pixar.

I found a new one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5BxymuiAxQ

It’s actually an old commercial, but as I (obviously mistakenly) usually avoid the Discovery Channel, I’d never seen it.

This commercial … cracks…me….up.

I love the arachanid part especially. Don’t ask me why.

Poor David has to listen to it a lot now, but he thinks it’s funny too because for some unknown reason I can’t actually get the chorus right. Seriously. Boom. Dee.  Yada.  That’s all. But every time I sing it it’s something different.

Usually I sing Oo de Lally.  Apparently all I retain is the number of syllables required. Everything else is different. I blame the fact that Chris and I watched Robin Hood, the animated version, like every day for a year.  That’s where Oo de Lally came from.  (Either the rooster or Little John sang it. I forget.)

So I’ll keep practicing.  Boom de yada, boom de yada, boom de yada, boom de yada

(For those not bored of this subject yet, this is what happens when nerds get a hold of good ideas, and then when NERDIER nerds go from there!)

Lasagna

August 26th, 2008

I made a lasagna for dinner.

It was good.

I still don’t know how it happened.

Free Fallin’

August 25th, 2008

Have you guys HEARD this? John Mayer redid Free Fallin’.  Really? John, what were you thinking?  It didn’t need to be remade! And you’re annoying! If you redo a Bruce song, I will hunt you down.

I think someone should redo Free Fallin’,  but from the girl’s point of view.

“I’m a good girl, love my mama
Love jesus… and America too
I’m a good girl…. crazy bout Elvis
Love horses and my boyfriend too

He’s a bad boy, cause he don’t even miss me

He’s a bad boy, for breakin my heart. ”

Maybe Melissa Ethridge or Annie Defranco.  It should be angry and sarcastic I think.

John Mayer. Sheesh.
